Talking benches
Weinheim town council
Production of an audiovisual guide as part of the Heimattage 2025
Spring to October 2025
As part of this year’s Baden-Württemberg Homecoming Days, TourComm developed a concept to bring selected benches in the city to ‘life’. The MAQNIFY© Guide was to serve as the platform for the audiovisual presentation. The aim was to create a digital experience at short notice under the motto ‘Home is a feeling’. TourComm took on the sponsorship together with videographer Björn Aßsmus from TwentyOneFilm.
The basis for the 13 stations across the urban area of Weinheim – including Sulzbach, Lützelsachsen, Ritschweier, Oberflockenbach, Rippenweiher and Hohensachsen – was formed by interviews with ‘faces’ from Weinheim selected by the city. This led to the creation of entertaining videos in the first half of 2025. Participants were asked to explain what ‘home’ means to them, what connects them to the town, and what their favourite places are. The interviews covered the participants’ connection to Weinheim, their attitude towards the concept of ‘home’, and their descriptions of their favourite spots in the ‘town of two castles’.
In addition to the videos, the guided tour also included links to the audio tracks alone. This allows users to decide for themselves whether they would like to watch the interviews or simply listen to them whilst sitting comfortably on one of the 13 ‘Heimat’ benches. Furthermore, the audio transcript was uploaded so that the information can also be read if required.
Here’s how it works: anyone interested can find stickers with QR codes on selected benches around the city. Scanning these takes you to the video and audio clips in the ‘Heimat ist ein Gefühl’ guide. You can also use the guide to navigate your way to more of the 13 stops.
