Democracy Guide for the Municipality of Herrenberg

In collaboration with the Municipality of Herrenberg, TourComm has developed the MAQNIFY© Democracy Guide, thereby making an important contribution to strengthening democratic education at a local level. Via floor stickers featuring QR codes at 20 selected locations across the municipality, interested members of the public can access a multilingual web app directly. The app features short texts and audio stories on topics such as freedom of expression, equality, transparency, the rule of law and democratic participation. The content is deliberately presented in simple, accessible language and draws direct parallels with people’s everyday lives.

Making democratic values visible in everyday life

The MAQNIFY© Democracy Guide aims to make democracy tangible in the very places where it is practised, in order to counteract the current rise in political disengagement. Democratic values are not explained in abstract terms, but are illustrated in specific locations within local communities. This creates a direct link between people’s own surroundings and democratic processes.

The concept and content of the Democracy Guide were developed by TourComm, with support from Imakomm Akademie GmbH and Schilderwerk Beutha, which is responsible for producing the floor stickers.

Following the project’s launch in Herrenberg, there was regular communication between the TourComm team and the local project management. This enabled the digital components of the guide to be linked to the 20 locations selected by Herrenberg in a very short space of time. Once the floor stickers had been printed and supplied, the Herrenberg municipal administration took charge of distributing them in public spaces.

Distribution within the broad target audience

The Herrenberg Democracy Guide is aimed at school pupils, people from migrant backgrounds, and all interested citizens and visitors to the town. Thanks to its multilingual and accessible design, the guide appeals to people of different age groups and backgrounds and supports inclusive political education.

The official launch of the guide was deliberately timed to coincide with Volunteering Day on 23 May. This serves to highlight the importance of civic engagement. The guide combines information, recognition and participation, and invites readers to rediscover democracy in their everyday lives.
